Who are we?
We are a group of University of Warwick students; Khushi Dhanday, Alice Sturzaker, Syaza Eudora, Shohina Ahmadbekova, and Raiyan Haq, who will be teaching Maths and English to the children and young adults of Kayamandi over the course of 6 weeks in the summer; alongside contributing towards extracurricular activties. We will get to immerse ourselves in another culture, experience life in the classroom, build personal resilience and gain a broad range of skills. This life-changing, eye-opening experience has been made possible for us by 'Warwick in Africa'.
What is Warwick in Africa?
The student volunteering programme is only one aspect of WiA. Their primary aim is to positively impact the quality of teaching and learning in partner schools through such student volunteer placements and by providing a range of training and support activities. Currently, WiA supports 28 less privaleged schools in Ghana, South Africa and Tanzania. So far, 130,000 learners and 5,000 African teachers have benefitted from the programme since 2006.
