With one in four people the UK suffering from mental health problems each year, and one in 10 young people, the challenges facing services are significant. Mental Health UK supports people affected by mental health problems including friends, family and carers. Working across the UK, the charity brings together over 40 years of expertise from their four national founding charity partners to improve understanding and provide vital care. With the Covid-19 Pandemic their work has never been more important! 

To raise money to support the charity and its incredible work, On the 23rd of August I will kayak (in 5/6 days) the 200+ mile journey from the Irish Sea in Liverpool across the country and out to The North Sea through the Humber Estuary. The route takes in the country’s longest single manmade waterway, the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, and the Aire & Calder Navigation, and involves carrying my kayak and all my equipment, food and supplies around more than 100 locks, including the 21 lock Wigan flight, Bingley’s famous Five Rise Staircase and paddling through a mile long tunnel under the Pennines at Foulridge.

Thanks to Salesforce and the revolutionary idea of the 1-1-1 model: giving 1% of Salesforce’s product, 1% of its equity and 1% of its employees’ time to philanthropic causes and the non-profit sector, I have the time off work to do this and they will match the donations up to £2500 so be generous people!
