So here’s our story... George was sick every Sunday for 3 weeks through December. The first 2 weeks we thought maybe he had eaten something strange but after the third week we knew something wasn’t right. We rushed him to Goddards Veterinary hospital in Wanstead where the amazing team immediately did thorough tests to find out the cause.

His Liver levels were off the charts and an ultrasound showed his gall bladder was inflamed and needed removing. After receiving biopsies from both it turned out his gall bladder was encasing a big cancerous tumour. Luckily it meant the tumour had been encased and removed cleanly and after a CT scan it looked like the cancer had not spread although a swollen lymph node is something we need to keep a watchful eye on.

So with George being diagnosed with Anaplastic carcenoma of the gallbladder we didn’t know what to do for the best. Do we do chemo? Will he have a good quality of life? Do we let nature take its course?

The other thing that struck us was the lack of information out there. This type of cancer is super rare in dogs, our vet Shaun (our hero) had never come across it in a dog and his colleagues across the nation had only ever seen a couple of cases. They clubbed together to figure out what the best course of chemo would be for George, they opted for Carbo platin.

So far George has been beyond amazing. He has chemo every 3 weeks, so far he doesn’t get sick and bounces back within a few hours. I pray this continues and in a few weeks we will do another scan to check on that lymph node. Everything crossed it is back to normal.

As we mentioned the lack of information out there for vets concerning cancer in our pets is so limited.  There is no reliable giant database of research and statistics and so when a rare cancer does pop up it’s hard to know what to do for the best.

ACT - Animal Cancer Trust is working so hard to gather this information and feed it back to vets so this information is accessible and can make all the difference. We hope everyones pets are healthy and never have to go through this but sadly as in humans Cancer is a reality that may affect us all.

Everyday through out March we are going to walk 10K steps for ACT - Animal Cancer Trust and all the amazing work they do.  We will share our walk with you everyday and even hope you may join us with 10k steps wherever in the world you are. We appreciate every penny, no amount is too small and as a thank you George will send you a Warrior George sticker. Just donate and drop me a DM with your address and we will pop one in the post to you with a thank you letter from George and his humans.
