Our Story 

Monday 9th August began like any other day for my husband Ryan Nelson. Ryan was a fit and healthy 43 year old who loved his football and being outdoors.  He had just arrived home that morning with a coffee when without any warning he took sudden cardiac arrest on our doorstep. He was unconscious and unresponsive at the scene. My son Corey alerted the emergency services immediately, who talked us through CPR until the Ambulance arrived. CPR and Defibrillation were given to Ryan by the Ambulance Paramedics, however they couldn’t retrieve a heart rhythm until the Doctor with the Air Ambulance crew arrived. This Doctor was able to administer lifesaving treatment to Ryan right in our driveway. Having stabilised his condition they then transported him by helicopter to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.  This journey took just 8 minutes!!!!!  

I watched as my world was falling apart before me on my doorstep that morning. Instant Cardiac arrest has a very low survival rate and there is no doubt that the presence of the Air Ambulance that morning saved my husbands life and also meant that my 3 young children didn’t lose their father❤️ 

Real life superheroes is how we would describe the people who work for this charity. So all monies raised will go directly to Air Ambulance NI, who receive NO government funding and rely solely on voluntary donations to operate this vital service. Approx. £5,550 per day is needed to keep the service operational and that’s why fundraising efforts are so important!
