In memory of our Mum
MARGARET ANNE SCOUGAL, 69 years of Crosby Moor, Carlisle, who died at 8am on Sunday, 27th June 2021, at home and whilst in the presence of her immediate family.
Margaret is survived by her brother Tom, her sons Paul and Barrie, her daughter Vikki, and her grandchildren Daniel, Thomas, Bethany, Aimee, Hannah, Brooke and Emerson who range in age variously from 19 years to 20 months
our mums eldest grandson, Daniel, was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation (a rare condition relative to the position of the brain in the skull). Despite its rarity, Daniel’s ailment was diagnosed by a time-served Staff Nurse on the Children’s Ward at the CIC. This led directly to surgical intervention at Newcastle and the Birmingham Childrens Hospital as well as successful treatment. It became obvious that locally, in medical practices throughout Cumbria, the condition of Chiari Malformation was not well known. Margaret wrote a paper on the subject and delivered it to scores of medical practices with a covering letter of explanation. Her exposition on the subject was well received.
We are fundraising for a designated team within the Children's Birmingham hospital in a hope to find a cure for Chiari.
My son Daniel suffers from this condition and as a result, has had brain surgery twice during the past 3 years!
Chiari malformation means that the lower part of the brain has been pushed downwards towards the spinal cord so it is below the entrance to the scull. Symptoms are extreme headaches, neck pain, extreme dizziness and balance problems, numbness in the arms and legs, blurred vision and many many more!
At the moment there is no cure for chiari.
Brain surgery is not a cure, it is a short term fix.
Together we can CONQUER CHIARI.
Thank you.
