Story
On Sunday 26th April 2020 my father and I will be taking part in the 2.6 challenge. Due to Covid19 our options have been limited in terms of what we can do, so we have decided to do 26 rounds of a HiiT circuit that we have been doing recently (which has been killer). It will take us roughly two hours complete.
My father has spent over 30 years of his life working in high threat environments as an EOD operator. Most of this time was spent as an officer in the British Army, which he eventually retired from as a Brigadier in 2018. During his service, he was actively involved in numerous operational tours - including multiple tours of both Afghanistan and Iraq - and headed up the British Army’s bomb disposal unit for a time, for which he was awarded a CBE. He is now working with the United Nations as a senior IED expert in Yemen.
As a result of his work as an EOD operator, my family has become incredibly familiar with a charity called the Felix Fund which, despite its small size, provides critical support to members of the EOD community - both within the armed forces and outside of it - who have suffered trauma as a result of events experienced overseas in theatres such as Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as those closer to home such as the Manchester attacks and the London Bombings. Their work is of vital importance to those within the community, whether it’s helping someone who has been suicidal get access to the treatment that they so desperately need, or helping a family adapt to a ‘new normal’.
Without donations, however, this work is not possible and leaves those affected vulnerable and without support.
