Thank you for visiting my Fundraising page!
I am helping Lewis-Manning Hospice Care to raise further funds during their 30th Anniversary with a head shave. I measured my hair and it is actually 30cm from root to ends so perfect for this 30th Anniversary challenge!
The award winning Simone Thomas Hair Salon in Westbourne very kindly offered to host the shave which took place on Monday 18th July 2022 at 10:30 a.m.
Ambassadors from Lewis-Manning Hospice Care were there to lend support and also took video/photos on the day!
Lewis-Manning Hospice Care is a charity helping people with life-limiting illnesses and their families across Poole, Purbeck and East Dorset. They promote acceptance, hope and peace of mind, helping people live well through their illness. Lewis-Manning Hospice Care offers a range of important services, which are run by their incredible clinical team.
These free services are:
- Day Hospice
- Lymphoedema Clinic
- Better Breathing Clinic
- Creative Arts & Wellbeing
- Bereavement & Family Support
On a personal note: I first heard about LMHC when I saw a pop-up advert on Facebook for a charity coffee morning they were holding locally to me. I'd not long moved to Dorset and I was thinking about volunteering some of my time. So, I pushed though my Social Anxiety and went along! I'm so glad I did because as well as meeting some of their lovely staff (and having some nice coffee and cake) I was impressed to hear how well they had managed to continue providing care through the pandemic and I decided I would definitely like to help in some way. I started the process of registering to be a volunteer but my heath took a downward turn ; virus after virus and just feeling generally awful.
Then, in March 2022 I noticed a lump in my breast. I was fast-tracked to the Breast Clinic and in April 2022 I was told that I have Grade II Invasive Breast Cancer.
Nothing really prepares you for that.
I had surgery to remove the tumour and 3 lymph nodes in May 2022 and am waiting for test results to see what further treatments may be helpful...
My own experience of this illness has made me think about things I never really thought I'd have to consider at 46 years old; The irony of perhaps needing to use the services of a charity I had intended to be helping is not lost on me.
I am, however, remaining positive ; my prognosis is as good as I can hope for. No-one really knows what their future holds but I do know that there are people with life limiting illnesses that need care at this very moment and I'd like to be able to help them.
It would mean so much to me if you could show your support and help me to help Lewis-Manning Hospice Care reach their £30,000 target for their 30th Anniversary and fund a nurse for another year.
Thank you!
Victoria.
