Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hi everyone.
Thank you
for reading this fundraiser and if you wish to donate at the end, then a really big thank you from myself, Kazzie and everyone who works at the Annette Fox Leukaemia Research Fund.
The reason I have set up this fundraiser, is because my best friend Kazzie is currently going through cancer treatment. We all
know that chemotherapy sucks. Sadly though, Kazzie has a double hit high grade B cell lymphoma. What does this mean? A double hit lymphoma is one that has mutated/split and is fast growing.
Because it is so fast growing, the treatment has to match it in its aggressiveness. So that means Kazzie is currently having standard chemo one week, then aggressive chemo the next. This repeats until either the lymphoma shrinks or dies or stops working. If that is the case, Kazzie will then need a stem cell transplant. This aggressive chemo is nasty. She comes home for a couple of days then back for standard chemo again. This is without the repeated blood tests and scans she has to endure too.
I have seen Kazzie unable to eat because of the ulcers in her mouth and throat. She has lost her fingerprints, because her skin peeled off, her hair fell out within a few days after starting the 2nd chemo. She is constantly in pain and stays awake for a couple of hours, before she has to sleep for the rest of the day.
So, to say thank you to the staff at Ward 33, Bradford Royal Infirmary and at the new cancer unit at Eccleshill, which are the units that Kazzie now spends all her time between, Kazzie wanted to raise funds for them, through the Annette Fox Leukaemia Research Fund. (Their page link is here https://annettefox.co.uk/ if you want to offer your time to help them with fundraising or donate on a regular basis).
Kazzie is obviously too ill to attempt a fundraiser, so I offered. We decided to do a head shave as not only will that hopefully raise funds, but it will also help the Princess Wigs Trust, as my hair will be donated to them to help make wigs for future cancer patients. The shave will take place at 3pm on Oct 9th 21, at Trimtastik salon, Sticker Lane, Bradford. The wonderful stylist Carol Thompsa has offered to do this for us, and we will update the page with photos.
My hair is long, about 18inches in length. So, it will be a drastic change to see.
Please, donate if you can, so that research into this horrible cancer can continue. All funds will go direct to the Annette Fox Research Fund. A thank you basket of treats will also be sent to the staff at the units on behalf of everyone who donates. This will be paid for by myself and not from raised funds.
Thank you
for reading.
Vicki
