We support bereaved children and families to help rebuild their lives

Story

It's back!! For the fifth year running....and at a time when bereavement support and mental health continues to be SO important.

Our annual tradition
We held our first little quiz night in 2018 when I ran the London Marathon (I may have mentioned this before....). We raised more than £2,000 on the night  and it helped me get to my £8,844 fundraising total that year....the quiz was to become an annual tradition.

The following year, we raised almost £13,000. You read that right. Thirteen. Thousand. Pounds. The following year (weeks before the pandemic hit....) we raised £3,742.90. Last year, held in between lockdowns, saw us hit £5,108.

This brings our grand fundraising total for this incredible charity to date at a whopping £30,661.65.

We want to keep raising money for this charity that has done so much for us and many, many other families.

About us and Child Bereavement UK
In June 2016, our beautiful boy, James, died. James, or Captain Chaos as we called him, was like a tornado in our family, a fearless little ball of energy and sheer lunacy. Anyone that ever had the joy of meeting James came away completely exhausted and entertained in equal measure. He was our world.

No words can describe the trauma and agony of losing a child. I won’t even begin to attempt to do so here. What I can explain, however, is how one charity has helped us rebuild our family.

One of the ‘side effects’ of a traumatic bereavement like ours is a little like brain damage. You have to re-learn everything all over again - from how to concentrate on simple everyday tasks to learning how to socialise and interact with others. But throughout all this, we have had to learn the single most important thing – how to support each other and James’s older sister, Holly. Once a month made the four hour round trip to see our counsellor at Child Bereavement UK. With her help, we slowly learnt how to rebuild our lives and how to make sure that he remains a huge part of
our family, more important now than ever following the arrival of his little sister, Georgina, in September 2017.

So, in April 2018 I ran the London Marathon. I started training with a newborn baby and ended up in hospital on a drip just three weeks before the race.....and while I wasn't troubling Mo Farah in the speed stakes on the day, unlike Mo I did finish with a huge grin and having raised almost £9,000.

While I won't be running another marathon any time soon, we do want to carry on raising money and awareness for this incredible charity. All the money raised from the quiz night will go towards helping families like us.
