Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Annabelle's JustGiving page.

Our 9 year old daughter Annabelle is raising money for the charity Little Princess Trust. Little Princess Trust are a charity that provides real hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland who have sadly lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Annabelle has a very long, very thick mane of hair. Annabelle is donating her hair and fundraising for the charity. She was under the impression that not many would want to sponsor her and started off hoping she could raise £20.00, we are aiming for a realistic £300.00. What Annabelle is doing is a BIG thing - she loves her beautiful hair but really wants to help the charity that helps so many and as her parents Craig and I are quite simply bursting with pride at her selfless dedication.

Annabelle's main motivation is her little friend Lola who at the age of 4 was diagnosed with Leukaemia. This is Lola's story told by her mum Lucy Willis  -

I took Lola to the GP because she was a little unwell, she had a cold, low grade fever and was very pale and tired which was so noticeable when compared to her identical twin sister Maya.

Our GP suggested a precautionary blood test, so two days later we went to hospital for the test. We got home and started some baking. When I got a phone call from our GP asking us to take Lola to hospital now, I knew. I wanted to scream and cry but I had two four year old girls and a two year old boy watching my sad face and so somehow, I don’t know how, we finished the baking.

Lola was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). We were admitted to hospital and did not leave for five weeks. We learnt that the leukaemia cells had crowded out her normal useful blood cells leaving her anaemic so she needed blood transfusions, platelet transfusions and many treatments and medicines.

I remember looking out of the hospital window and wondering how the world could still be continuing as usual when our world was shattered. Our four year old little girl had cancer.

As Lolas hair started to fall out the reality hit even harder and one evening at 10.30pm we emailed the Little Princess Trust who supply wigs to children who lose their hair. The called us straight back at 10.30pm in the evening we could not believe it. Lola was fitted with a wig the following week. They were so very kind.

Lola missed her twin Maya terribly. We were away from home and trying to process what had happened when a CLIC Sargent Nurse approached us with a key for CLIC House, we had no idea what this was. We discovered it was a beautiful place close to the hospital where we could keep our family close together. We would put Maya to bed with Lola in hospital and then when they were both asleep one of us would take Maya back to CLIC House still asleep whilst the other stayed with Lola.

Lola is nearly 3 years in remission.
