Story
There are 10,000 bears across Asia who are held in 2m x 1m cages and mutilated daily to extract their bile...Most die within 10yrs, but some have been like this for up to 20yrs...their suffering is unimaginable and it’s unnecessary as there are natural alternatives.
The good news is the Laos and Vietnamese governments have made this illegal and will close the farms once they know they bears have a place to go.
Throughout November Free the Bears is hosting a 10k walk/run event to help raise funds to build additional bear houses so they can close down these horrendous farms. I want to take the challenge a step further by doing 10,000 squats (using a weighted bar that's half my body weight) over the month of November - this will equate to 500 per day/2.5k a week.
Free the bears is an amazing charity (As is Animals Asia who I also support) where every penny goes to helping these bears...there is no big marketing spend and Mary Hutton a grand mother from Perth who founded the charity 25yrs ago still runs it from her garage and hasn't taken a penny - at 80 years old she is pretty amazing.
I'm hoping you will be able to sponsor me even a small amount will make a massive difference.
Also if you can I’d be grateful if you could share my story and/or the Free the Bears and Animals Asia home page to help raise awareness so we can stop this barbaric treatment of these beautiful, intelligent bears.
Thank you.
