We fund essential medical research to find a cure for Lymphangioleiomyomatosis

Story

My Mum has had LAM for a long time, I am so grateful for medical science for allowing me more time to spend with her, she was diagnosed when I was in my early teens.

LAM action struggle for funds, probably as LAM is such a rare (and rotten) condition not many people know of it. My Mum finds everyday tasks challenging, but, she is a determined character and most of the time, despite being on oxygen 24 hours a day, she just gets on with life and enjoys every day. She is remarkable, I am so in awe of her. How she doesn't rattle with all the tablets she has to take on a daily basis is amazing, yet she believes she is lucky just to be here!

I would love to help the researchers to find a cure for LAM, which is why Olly and I have decided to do the Major Series; it is a tough 10k obstacle race designed by the British Armed Forces for military fitness. I can't say I am looking forward to it as it describes the course as 'a multitude of muddy bogs, thick woods and river crossings, a spider's web and the dreaded ice crawl' I think I must be mad!!!! Will it be a pleasurable experience?! I (Vanessa) am unfit, I do not like mud, the cold or running particularly.... You are very welcome to come and support us, it's on the 29th September, Bramham Park, nr Leeds, Yorkshire.

If you would like to donate we would REALLY appreciate it and I know my Mum would be very grateful too.

Many thanks in advance. Heather, Vanessa and Oliver.

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare lung disease that only occurs in women. It affects just over one woman in a million. We are a self-help group providing support for patients with LAM and raise money for vital research - it is often difficult to obtain money for research into a rare disease.
