Story
I'm Trekking Mount Snowdon with a group of 50 students from Washwood Heath Technology College in order to raise money for Islamic Relief's Water 4 Life Project.
Did you know...?
• 780 million people worldwide don’t have access to clean water – which is more than 2.5 times the population of the USA
• Today one child dies every 21 seconds from a water related disease.
•Women in Africa walk an average of 6km to fetch water – and you thought the walk from the sofa to the kitchen was hard...
• In just one day, it is estimated that more than 152 million hours of womenand girls' time is consumed for the most basic of human needs — collecting water for domestic use.
• More people have a mobile phone than a toilet..Ridiculous? No it's Reality!
SO THAT'S WHY I'M TREKKING THIS MOUNTAIN; because WATER is so much more than just a drink: it’s needed to cook food, water crops and livestock, wash hands and cooking pots to stop diseases spreading... Islamic Relief aims to give people all over the world Water 4 Life. We don’t just hand out water to those who are thirsty – we dig wells, construct micro-dams and build systems to capture and purify rainwater, helping communities access clean
water for years to come, so they don’t need our help any more.
