Story
Hi! Greetings from all of us here at Tuk South productions the world's first tuktuk powered film crew.
Back in the gloomy old days of Covid we had found ourselves stranded in Kenya making videos in some of her incredible wild spaces. It quickly dawned on us that the people protecting them were struggling. The Rangers; the heroes who help maintain the balance between communities and wildlife had taken a hit due to the pandemic, so had their funding.
Armed with only filming equipment and a couple of microphones, how could we help? The answer was clear. Spend the last of our savings on two tuktuks, cover them in sponsorship stickers and document our voyage from Kenya to Cape Town in these ridiculous machines.
For the last 18 months we have dragged our unwieldy steeds from their natural tarmac-coated environment in Nairobi’s backstreets across 23,000 kilometres of some of Africa’s most remote, corrugated and least used roads. It’s been an odyssey of breakdowns, punctures and toppled TukTuks, as we have coaxed these three legged beasts through elephants, jungles, mountains, savanna and the ever hospitable Kalahari and Namib deserts. Who needs four wheel drive, A/C or doors anyway? Along the way we have filmed as many conservation, sustainability and community projects as we could get our hands on; using social media to spotlight the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between Africa's communities and wild-spaces.
We have teamed up with the charity ForRangers who dedicate their lives to raising money and support for rangers and draw attention not only to the plight of Africa’s wildlife and the poaching crisis but importantly, the hardships and dangers the rangers are exposed to on a daily basis while trying to protect our wildlife.
Our mission is about to span the seas to the Americas where we aim to raise as much money for these champions as possible. Any donations will be greatly appreciated and will be a big help on the ground.
All the love,
The Tuksouth Crew
