Januhairy · 3 January 2020

Every year, 4.3 million girls undergo FGM/C, mostly in Africa and Asia. Recognised globally as a human rights violation, FGM/C can bring devastating health consequences and is taking the lives of one girl every 12 minutes. Orchid Project is working at the forefront of the global movement to end it.

Story

This January, I have been inspired from a wise fable (the Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special) and will be doing Januhairy, where I will let it  grow, let it grow (can't hold it back anymore) until I'm a WILDEBEEST and am SHUNNED BY SOCIETY. But on a serious note, I am among one of the few women on this planet, who get to make choices about what to do with their own body (even if not everyone likes or agrees with it). So I'd like to use my freedom as an opportunity to raise money for women who have no choice. Women who experience mutilation and oppression towards their most vital body parts.

I'm living in Tenerife so will not be tucking my new winter coat under any... winter coat. So to all whom I encounter whilst I live in the wild, to all that find female body hair disgusting or 'unnatural' (oh the irony), this month shall also, of course, represent a cheerful fuck you in your general direction.

Please donate. Please do what you want with your own body. Whatever that may be. And KEEP LAUGHING. If you are laughing, you are winning.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
