Story
After two highly successful rides in 2010 and 2012 with my sons it felt like the right time to do one last big challenge in aid of the Centre. This time I will travel alone for 25 days, mainly following the ancient pilgrimage route to Rome, the Via Francigene, covering a distance of around 1,400 miles.
The route travels through Newhaven - Dieppe - Paris before I eventually reach the Via Francigene in Eastern France. From then on it is pretty simple apart from having to cross the Alps without an elephant!
You can follow the ride on my blog http://the-picos-ride-for-cancer.blogspot.co.uk/
The ride is in memory of my late wife, Lesley, who died in 2006 of a cancerous brain tumor. All money raised will go to the South East Cancer Help Centre (SECHC) the charity she found invaluable as she fought to stay with me and our two young sons, Chris and Luke.
SECHC, which has local NHS recognition, can be found in the Tesco Development in Purley, Surrey. Hypnotherapy, EFT, Reiki, Aromatherapy, and Reflexology are just some of the therapies available to members. Activities include yoga, Tai Chi, drama, singing, relaxation, and arts & crafts. In addition to telephone and individual counselling sessions there are various support groups including specific ones for carers and those with ovarian, bowel, prostate, or breast cancer.
