Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

March, 2013

I arrived in Basildon last November having crossed 15 countries covering over 5,000 miles/8.000kms. taking nearly 6 months.

You are welcome to peruse the material on this page and if you think this a worthy cause, please donate what you can afford.

Updates are directly below this box.

          thanks !

UPDATE 19 October:

I cycled many times 2000m sea level in the far east of Turkey and Georgia and my total distance is now 6500km!

Weather is getting cold now but I have managed to cycle 600km through Georgia, followed by a boat journey to Ukraine. From there I cyceld up through Moldovia, back into the Ukraine and now Poland.

Other than boat journeys I have never taken a car, bus , train or plane as part of this challenge.

As part of my challenge I shall cycle to Alschwitz to pay my respects. The Red Cross saved my grandfather during world war two, given his Jewish background, but many were not so lucky.

UPDATE 9 September 2012 - I've just left Capadocia in Turkey and am heading for the border which is about 1,000kms. away. Then comes the Georgian mountains with ascents up to 2,300 metres (7,000 feet) !

I am confident, but I am not sure if my bike is up to it !

I will be back in the UK and Belgium at the beginning of December.

To see up-to-date photos of my challenge go to:

and click on the camera icon on the left - having read my item entitled: “Will the bike make it?”

The Red Cross - please give as much as you are able:

Nobody can have failed to have been deeply moved by the Paralympics and the many very brave competitors from all over the world - with so many stories of hardship to tell.

The Red Cross has helped many of them in the past.

For instance Mohammad Fahim Rahimi, Afghanistan's sole Paralympic athlete, is one of the many casualties of the Afghan conflict. The powerlifter trains in a Kabul gym without the help of a coach.

He walks with the help of a prosthetic leg provided by the Red Cross.

The Red Cross has helped many people in the UK as well with advice and equipment.

They help too wherever there is conflict and more often than not work under extremely hazardous conditions from Assad's brutal Syria to the tsounamies in Sri Lanka and Japan through to Libya and Pakistan.

Please give as much as you are able !  Thank you.

UPDATE 30 August 2012

I have arrived in Istanbul !!! (view a random selection of my photos here)

I have ridden nearly 3,500 Kms. (circa 2,000 miles) and have crossed Holland, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and finally Turkey.

I have encountered nothing but friendliness and hospitality from all sorts of people, some very poor people who struggle to make ends meet. The Roma communities especially have helped me.

I have ridden up and down mountains, in extreme heat and through heavy rainstorms.

I am now about to embark on the most difficult stretch through Georgia, a mountainous region - almost 2,000 miles of it !!!

When I arrive back home I will  have travelled over 5,000 miles (8,500 kms.)

The Red Cross has helped human beings of whatever race, religion or disposition for almost 150 years. To continue to do this truly great job, she needs money - please give generously - I am riding 80 - 100 miles a day for this, please support me !
