Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
From a very young age, I knew that I wanted to help people. I didn't know how or in what way, I just knew I wanted to do it. As I got older and went to college and started working, this was still a goal for me, to help people. So I started working in the social care industry, first with the elderly, then adults with disabilities and then with children with disabilities.
Last year I started working for the together trust at a residential respite service. I recently celebrated my one year anniversary of working in this wonderful service. This got me thinking about all the things that I had experienced in my year working in this service. I realised that the children and young people that we support had given me a years worth of fantastic experiences and memories and that I wanted to do something to give something back to them. It took me a while, but I decided that I wanted to shave my head to try to raise some money for the brilliant children and young people that we support. I would like to raise some money to go towards buying sensory equipment and sensory toys for our sensory room. Lots of the children and young people we support enjoy spending time in this room and it brings them hours of joy. Being able to get some new equipment for them would be fantastic and their experiences and enjoyment would be priceless.
Our service supports children and young people with disabilities and complex needs and their families. The difference that I have seen our service make to the lives of the children and young people that we support and their families in unbelievable and I am so lucky to be a part of that. The Together trust is a fantastic charity to work for and I am proud to say that I work for them and with the fantastic team at Woodlands.
My mum is joining me in this event and has volunteered to shave her head too. I feel so lucky to have a family that feels so passionate about supporting me in the things that I am passionate about.
I know it is a difficult time for most people financially and emotionally so we hope to bring some joy at this time. I hope to record my head being shaved and will update with videos and pictures of this event! Any donation, no matter the size, will be greatly appreciated.
The head shave event will take place on the 31st of July 2020.
