One of the charities I will be running for on the 5th of September is Leeds Women's Aid. Leeds Women's Aid is a local Leeds charity set up in 1972 to provide support to women facing harassment and abuse.

This involves providing women at risk of domestic abuse with emergency accommodation and running a 24-hour telephone to survivors and victims of sexual harassment and assault.

I'm running for Leeds Women's Aid because over the course of my time at University I became more aware of gendered violence - especially pertaining to one experience in my second year in which I encountered a woman who was given a black eye outside her own house for refusing to go home with a man.
