Story
The Challenge: Climb 3 Mountains and Cycle 450 miles in 72 hours. On 25th June Saoirse, Emily and I will be setting of on our National Three Peaks cycle challenge. We will cycle from Snowdon to Scafell Pike and then Ben Nevis, climbing each of the mountains on foot as we go. On the bikes we will cover over 450 miles with over 13000 ft of elevation gain. Climbing the three mountains will add 26 miles and 9800 feet to that total. We want to break the women’s team record which is currently set at 87 hours, however our target is to finish within 72 hours.
Who are we? Friends since 2015, the three of have previously cycled the Yorkshire Dales 200, North Coast 500 and Coast to Coast as a team and are hoping to complete Lands End to John O’Groats as a training ride prior to taking on this challenge. Our training plan is well underway, Emily lives in Denby Dale, Soirse in Abingdon and I live in Marple, the past year has made training rides together very difficult but we are in frequent contact with updates on training progress and tips.
Why Support us? I will be raising money for Kinder Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) for their vehicle replacement fund. As an avid fell runner, hiker and mountain climber I know the lengths the UK’s Mountain Rescue Teams go to to help people in distressing and dangerous situations, often putting their own lives at risk. KMRT relies on two Defender ambulances which are fundamental to their quick and effective emergency support; they save lives. Both vehicles are nearing end of life so KMRT needs to build a major fund to purchase a replacement capable of operating over very rugged terrain. KMRT is entirely voluntary and there is no public funding available.
We are really looking forward to this adventure but are under no illusions as to how tough it’s going to be. We are no strangers to endurance adventures and have endured storms, freezing conditions, midge clouds and the infamous Bealach na Bà but this challenge in a different league, we know that your donations and kind words will help to motivate us when the going gets really tough.
