Thomas Duggan is raising money for Devon Mind
In memory of Roger And Cris Duggan
We believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. We listen, give support and advice, and fight for those who need our help. Our services promote positive mental health and wellbeing and support local people in the first step towards recovery. Thank you for supporting Devon Mind!

Story

I’m raising £750 for Cancer Research and MIND Charities if you’re able to offer a little. In 2013 I was working in America. At 6am my friend and colleague came into my room and said my mum was trying to get in touch with me. I opened skype and my mum said..'how are you my darling?' I said.. 'I'm fine' ..mum followed by saying..'I'm calling so early because .. I've been rediagnosed with cancer, and it's terminal, and your dad is missing...' I took the next flight home and began a desperate search for my dad, driving and walking from place to place and thinking of locations of sanctuary where he might be scared and sheltering. It was a particularly cold few days in February, so I was worried he would be outside and confused. He had a history of depression earlier in his life, but you'd never know if you'd have met him, a talented, funny and loving person with many friends.

My mum had managed to take my dad into hospital as he was very anxious and pacing at home. A few hours later, when a doctor left him alone in a room, he absconded from the hospital at 00.47am. His body was found in the River Exe a few days later. His glasses were found unbroken in the pocket of the jacket he was found in and my mum and I believe he had purposely removed his glasses before ending this life.

My mum continued with treatment for a further year and a half but sadly lost her life to cancer which by this time had spread to nearly all parts of her body. She left this world with more love in it compared to when she arrived. I couldn't have hoped for more supportive and beautiful parents and I'm hoping to support others in a vulnerable position with this fundraising. I'm hoping to raise £750 for research into cancer treatments and to support those that need mental health care. If you're able to support this in whatever way you can it will greatly help others. It's nice to give so you'll be making yourself feel better ;-)

Thank you for your support, it means a lot to me and to those that need it.

This is a picture of the evening my mum left this astral plane💫
