Story
We are Hope and Homes for Children. We close orphanages. We support care reform. And we help overhaul child protection, so that children can grow up feeling the love and belonging of a safe family home, and communities can grow stronger, through redirecting resources, support, and skills.
Closing orphanages breaks the cycle of trauma; it leads to children being treated as individuals, with rights. It finds them loving families or reunites them with their own. It stops tourists visiting orphanages and funding their bad practices, not knowing the harm they’re doing. And it redirects money, support, skills, and knowledge to those who need it most: families and communities.
Since 1994, Hope and Homes for Children has been transforming care systems in the East Africa, Eastern Europe, and South Asia, replacing orphanages with community-based family support. By 2031, we’ll have helped close every orphanage in Bulgaria, Rwanda, Romania, and Moldova.
