Story
Our dearest, clever and social ‘one of a kind’ friend, Matthew Vincent, sadly lost his battle with cancer earlier this year, a huge loss to everyone that knew him. None more so than his beautiful family, most importantly his amazingly supportive wife and children, Charley, Ella and Jack.
Through his 3 year battle, the family have never been keen to accept charity, remained humble, appreciative and undemanding of the support received from close friends and family. The Vincents have a huge network of friends that have longed to help through these tough times and with that in mind we have decided to move ahead with a worthy fundraiser.
The purpose of ‘The Big Vincentive’, a walk along a route that Matthew used to take on visits to friends in West Sussex, a feet for anyone, especially whilst suffering from such an unforgiving and cruel illness that he endured. The Big Vincentive is a walk along ‘The Downs Link’, an old train line from Guildford to Shoreham on Saturday 25th September 2021. Everyone is welcome to come along, to walk at whatever speed or distance that they can, let’s all raise together! If you want to join in, please email malcolmo77@mac.com to find out about times and location.
The funds raised – Phyliss Tuckwell https://www.pth.org.uk/ a local care hospice, that did so much for the Vincents at no cost. Charley would like to thank them for everything they did to help them through Matthew’s final days and for other families who find themselves in the awful position they did.
We would also like to use the money to fund a memorial bench, situated on the downs at Pewley, Guildford, where Matt lived and went to school and where his children now go. Ailsa and Steven (Matthew’s parents) contributed to buying the land behind the school, to keep it public, untouched and used by the community. This place would suit a lovely bench in memory of Matt that friends and family could visit and reminisce.
We all appreciate your support, no matter how much for The Big Vincentive.
Thank you in advance.
