Along with four-time Olympian Chemmy Alcott, Chris Brooks, Richard Gibbs, Adam Libbey and Max Willcocks ('The Arctic V') are taking on the world's toughest ski race - the Arctic Circle Race in order to raise funds for Ski 4 Cancer.

Raising money for Ski4Cancer by taking on the Arctic Circle Race 2015 marries two of our biggest inspirations. Having all had friends and family members affected by cancer, the work of smaller cancer charities who provide respite and support for cancer sufferers and their families is of huge importance to us. On the flip side, another major inspiration is provided by those sporting warriors and polar explorers who have taken on Arctic expeditions and long distance ski races, battling against the elements and the limits of human endurance.

Ski 4 Cancer is a small UK-based charity which provides respite and relief for cancer sufferers and their families. We are actively involved with the charity which also make grants to UK-based care institutions and supports research into the positive effects of sport (e.g. skiing) and how it can help both prevent cancer and assist in recovery post diagnosis. We are also in the early stages of helping to fund an altitude research facility which is particularly exciting. So it is extremely rewarding to see first-hand how the charity’s work helps cancer sufferers and their families.

Having first seen former GB Olympic Skier Graham Bell take on the Arctic Circle Race on a BBC documentary back in 2009, describing it something along the lines of “bloody horrible” and “one of my toughest challenges”, it struck a chord with all 5 of us. The type of chord which says “wouldn’t it be awesome to put ourselves through physical hell in unforgiving terrain and achieve something like that!?”
