I always fancied myself as a bit of a Beach Bum, bronzed, muscular, hair matted and a big bushy beard, or even one of those hippies from Woodstock, free as a bird, making love not war, living out of a VW camper van, and again with the big bushy beard.

So during lockdown, I thought I would make a start by growing myself some facial hair! Twelve weeks on and rather than looking like Robinson Crusoe I more closely resemble my daughter's dog Murphy (only much less cute).

The verdict from everyone is - "the great beard must go!' So this weekend the beard is coming off but I would like to use the occasion to raise £500 for WAVEs Community Support Programme, providing essential shopping for the elderly who have been living alone and are isolated during this pandemic.

So far, WAVE have been able to support 62 elderly residents living alone and with your help we could support some more. Please support this effort by making a contribution to the "Great Beard Off!" and thereby helping individuals living within our community.
