Tearfund Global Running Team - Run with Simon
Thanks for supporting one of over 100 runners from churches around Northern Ireland who will be running the Belfast Marathon Relay with Ethiopian Church Leader Simon Haile.
The runners include 2 teams of church leaders - Bishop Harold Miller, former Presbyterian Moderator Rev. Stafford Carson, former Methodist President Rev. Ken Todd, David McClay, New Wine Ireland, David Dickinson, Alpha Ireland and David Dunlop, Windsor Baptist Church.
Together, we hope to raise £10,000 to help Simon’s team mobilise 20 churches to establish businesses benefiting more than 5,000 people living in some of the poorest communities in Ethiopia.
To date this amazing project has enabled 275 churches to establish savings schemes and small businesses benefiting 70,000 people. One of those people is Thhuy,a mother of 5 who lives in a slum area of Addis Ababa. After saving for a few months, she got a loan of £30 from a church based savings scheme which enabled her to set up her own bakery business. Now, now runs a successful business and is able to feed her children well every day.
Come and hear Simon - We'd love you to come and hear how Simon’s team are enabling local churches to transform their communities. You can hear him speak on Sunday 1 May, at 7.00pm at Willowfield Parish, East Belfast or between 1 and 2.30pm on Monday 2nd May at Ravenhill Presbyterian church.
Follow us on Facebook - You can also follow what’s happening in run up to the marathon by becoming a Tearfund NI friend on Facebook.
Invest in a community - If you’ve been inspired by Simon’s work, you can now invest in a community and see how the church is transforming its local community. Find more about this amazing new initiative here - http://see.tearfund.org/.
