Story

This month, I am supporting Autism & Neurodiversity - North Scotland. As someone who considers themselves neurodivergent (ADHD), I am well aware of how difficult a lack of support can be for folks like myself. I chose this charity for September because it is an important month for me. On the 1st, I turned 30. On the 30th, I will submit my PhD thesis. Both of these milestones were not a given and I continue to navigate the challenges that weigh down my ambition. But I have been lucky in achieving what I have and that is due, in no small part, to the support and care I've received through the years. In choosing this charity, I hope to be of some help to those who struggle in a world that is all too often indifferent to their needs. We all must continue to recognise that the inherent value in our humanity comes from our diversity. So, please join me in elevating the full spectrum of hearts and minds that we are lucky enough to share this world with.

Autism & Neurodiversity - North Scotland (previously Grampian Autistic Society) is a charitable organisation based in Aberdeen which provides support across the Grampian area. It was the first organisation of its kind in the region to offer help and support to autistic individuals and their families. Beginning as a support group, the society expanded over time and became a parent-run organisation which was later constituted into a charity. We now have a staff of around 40 people and are providing ongoing support and services for well over 100 families.

Their Mission:
Creating opportunities for autistic and neurodivergent people, and their networks, to realise their full potential and transform the world we live in.
