Story
Mum sadly passed away in September 2020 after a short-lived battle with terminal cancer of a particularly rare and aggressive nature. She was 64. This is far too young for someone who brought so much joy, and cared so much, for those around her. Even in her final months, facing up to the emotional and physical hardship of chemotherapy and multiple operations, mum always wore her trademark beaming grin and was as selfless as ever to those of us who were so very lucky to be close to her. Simply, the world is worse-off without her, though mum's spirit lives on in all of us through our collective wealth of happy memories of a truly remarkable mum, partner, sister and friend.
Mum passed completely at peace in the faultless care of St Cuthbert's Hospice and the incredible nurses who work there. St Cuthbert's Hospice holds a special place in the hearts of myself and my family, having taken care of my Gran (Sarah Dobson) in her final weeks, after which, mum herself raised money for the Hospice, completing St Cuthbert's Way with her close friend Tina. Words cannot possibly describe how grateful we all are for the care mum received at St Cuthbert's, ensuring she passed with the utmost dignity, a manner befitting to a deeply proud and glamourous woman in life.
It is with great sadness we discovered that due to COVID-19, St Cuthbert's Hospice has missed out on over £300,000 of fundraising. It is our honour and duty to very kindly ask for donations in mum's name for St Cuthbert's Hospice so many more families like ours can continue to benefit and take comfort from the wonderful place it is, even in our darkest moments.
