Story

Our darling three year old Jakey suddenly became very ill on December 5th 2021. Jake had caught a virus and it was attacking his liver, our lives were turned upside down as Jake was diagnosed with Hyper Acute Liver Failure and we were told he would need a transplant to save his life. Within one week of being at Kings College Hospital London, Jake was placed at the top of the nationwide emergency liver transplant list and induced into a coma to prevent brain damage whilst we waited for his transplant. Jake spent two weeks in the intensive care unit and 5 weeks on the Ray of Sunshine paediatric liver ward. The treatment and attention Jake received at Kings was exceptional. The staff are incredible and cared for Jake like he was their own son. We wouldn’t have our Jakey, and Hugo wouldn’t have his brother without Kings Hospital and the care that he received from their wonderful staff. We owe them everything. We have set up this page to express our deepest gratitude for saving our little boy’s life and to give something back to make better the lives of other families starting their terrifying journey.

When Jake was physically able to, he spent most of his time in the hospital playroom. It became his happy place where he could be a 3 year old again, a place he wasn’t being poked and prodded with needles and assessed by doctors constantly whilst lying in bed all day longHe got to play with toys and paint dinosaurs and be a child again. These children spend weeks on end in a confined space lying in bed, the playroom is their lifeline. Whilst in hospital we noticed how empty the playroom was, there were barely any toys or activities which is something these little children desperately need for their mental survival and physical recovery.

Please help us raise money for the Ray of Sunshine ward, the first thing we want to do is transform the playroom into a magical place for kids. We want to give every child a chance to disconnect and just for a second feel like they are in their own playroom at home. They need new toys, books, musical instruments, activities and sensory lights for each child that leaves the ICU struggling to cope with heavy withdrawal symptoms from the very strong medication (opiates) and in some cases Post Traumatic Stress.

We would also like to help make the stay of other families at the hospital more comfortable by transforming the parent room which was very outdated and had limited amenities. Any remaining funds that we are able to raise will go towards the Ray of Sunshine ward.

Please donate as little or as much as you can, so that together, we can create some form of happiness for the children and families that are suffering on a daily basis

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts

Olivia, Max, Jake and Hugo
