Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page in memory of our Sundararajah Vijaya Kumar. A beautiful Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Brother, Cousin and Friend to all.
For those that know our father, they will unanimously agree he was a firm but fair man with the essential principle in bringing out the best in people. The heart and soul of his methods all revolved around education, and many of us attribute our successes in life to his approach with us, and the support he provided us with throughout our lives.
In everlasting memory of our father, we are teaming up with the well-respected charity: 'Sivan Arul Humanity', who have a deep understanding both locally and internationally with projects of this scale. Sivan Arul already have a strong footprint across northern Sri Lanka, with a track record in assisting orphans and underprivileged children with regards to health projects, poverty and nutrition, including water and construction related projects in and around Jaffna. Sivan Arul have been running since 2005 following the Tsunami Rehabilitaton project and have already impacted thousands of children and adults in Sri Lanka. They know how to make our donations stretch to achieve our desired goals, and have the local experience working with the government to implement without waste.
It would be our father's dream to see just one underprivileged child make it through his education centre, onto further education with University and/or well respected jobs at the end of this road. A child who currently will not even have access to food or clean water, often living in camps unfit for adults let alone a child. With Sivan Arul Humanity, our education centre will be open to all children in the local district, free to all cultures and religions. It is expected to benefit 123 children from grade 1 through to 12 (age 5-16). All teachers hired will be formally vetted to be of the same standard as their national counterparts, with all textbooks and study material aligning the cirriculum with all other schools in the country. Whilst we are optimistic of how this project will change lives locally, we are also realistic that it will take time and consistency to achieve this dream. We are kicking this project off, and know a lot of you have expressed interest in making donations in memory of our father. Please let me start by saying there is absolutely no obligation for you to do so, and so do not feel pressured to provide anything. However for those that do wish to make a donation, little or large would be warmly received in memory of our father's legacy.
You can always reach out to me if you wish to know more details on this project, and we of course will keep you posted as things develop.
Kind Regards,
Sanjeev and Rajeev
