Story

World Book Day changes lives through a love of books and shared reading. Our mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a childs future success more than their family circumstances, their parents educational background or their income. We want to see more children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them. With your funds, we can reach even more children and give them a book of their own. A donation of £1 helps us to get £1 book tokens and books to every child, through every school or nursery, across the UK and Ireland. Every year, children look forward to receiving their £1 book token, and for 1 in 3 child receiving free school meals the World Book Day £1 book is the first book of their own.
