Summer Long Dance · 2 July 2017
Throughout times and across different peoples, dance has been a powerful force bringing communities together to pray for the preservation of Life, to celebrate, to dream, to heal.
Summer Long Dance, a charitable 72-hr long non-stop dance event organized by the School of Movement Medicine offers a possibility to continue the tradition of dance rituals in a modern, yet still sacred, context. Participation in the Long Dance requires raising funds for a charity of one's choice. I choose to raise the minimum of 350 euros to support the efforts of the Pachamama Alliance in preserving the intactness and integrity of Life in the indigenous Amazon forest, thus preserving the balance and sacredness of Life on the whole planet for the generations to come.
With each year, bringing our attention to the situation unfolding in the Amazon is becoming more urgent. David Tucker, the leader of the Pachamama Journeys project, who has been working for the Pachamama Alliance for more than 15 years explains the current situation:
“10 million acres of the last and most pristine, culturally and biologically diverse rainforest in the southern hemisphere and the world is under threat right now, as the Ecuadorian government is aggressively promoting the concessions (selling the oil rights to oil companies) of these ancestral lands without the proper consultation or consent of the indigenous people who have lived there for millennia."
“Bids from multi-national oil companies are still being sought, and the Ecuadorian government is still looking to review and negotiate contracts to take the oil out of the ground. Then the same process that began 40 years ago in Ecuador, which led to the largest environmental disaster in the world and has led to an increase in poverty nationally, as well as genocide, will start all over. But a line has been drawn in the ground by the united indigenous people of Ecuador's Southern Amazon. They will give everything they have, including their lives, to ensure that the line is not crossed, and that their rights and the rights of their Madre Selva (Mother Forest) are respected. They do this not only for their own people and the rainforest, but for all of us, for all of life. Here is where a new story begins. Will we continue to stand with them, as they stand for us? The Pachamama Alliance is dedicated to supporting their efforts on every level possible.”

Standing up by the side of the indigenous people, who have with trust reached out for the help of westerners, is our honour and responsibility.
I dedicate my dance, my presence, and love for the well-being of the global community. Dance helps to awaken the intelligence of life within the body and to deepen the understanding of our original nature. Through that understanding the interconnectedness of All That Is is revealed to us.
Stand up with me to help awaken the global community to sustainability and responsibility of co-creating our future. Nothing goes unnoticed on the planet, as we all form one body.
I choose Life, Freedom, Harmony, Peace, and Purity of our Lands. This is my Truth.
What do You choose?
With all my love. May prosperity and true happiness pour onto you.
Arina
