I am doing the Dirty Dash challenge to raise money for the neonatal unit at East Surrey Hospital. To say thank you to them for the excellent care and support they gave Ella (my future Goddaughter) and her parents Lindsay and Trevor when she was first born. Ella, was born with a cleft palate and Pierre Robin Sequence. It was not known that Ella had these conditions before she was born. Subsequently, Ella had a difficult entry and start to life, especially in her first few weeks. Lindsay and Trevor have said, they can't thank the unit enough for the care and support they gave Ella and themselves. Without which, they don't know how they would have coped.
Pierre Robin Sequence is a condition present at birth, in which the infant has a smaller than normal lower jaw or set back from the upper jaw, a tongue that falls back in the throat and obstructs the airway, and difficulty breathing. Most infants, but not all, will also have a cleft palate, and is commonly U-shaped. PRS is rather uncommon, frequency estimated range from 1 in 2000 to 30,000 births, based on how strictly the condition is defined. In contrast, cleft lip and/or palate occurs once in every 700 live births.
Ella has come a long way and is a little star. But she still has a long journey ahead of her, where she will have to have surgery.
Please please please, help me raise money to say thank you for the care she has already received. But also to show support for her journey ahead. The money will go to the neonatal unit at East Surrey hospital which will go towards helping other children and their families in the future. My target is £1000 but with your help I want to smash this!
The Dirty Dash is no run in the park... It is a 6km run with 15 major obstacles. I have never done anything like this before so this is going to be my biggest personal challenge to date. Both physically and mentally! So when I am struggling, I am going to need that extra bit of motivation to keep me focused. So knowing you are behind me will keep me going!
