Story
In November 2016 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Devasting, so I thought. At that time, I didn't own a bike but by November 2018, I cycled 250 miles in India for Women V Cancer. Without doubt, signing up to that bike challenge got me out of the hole, along with the brilliant support of the medics, family & friends.
The night before I left for India my friend Karen called to tell me her own devasting news of breast cancer. It's a prolific, nasty disease. She knew what helped get me through, so we decided we would look for another challenge, which will hopefully help her too. We have so far had 6 covid-aborted or political-unrest-aborted attempts at cycling in Thailand, Sri Lanka and a trek in the Amazon! Let's hope this Sri Lanka trip is a goer. The training is well underway.
The group of women I joined in India were inspirational and between us we raised close to £1m! We want to do it again, to give back, and also to show support for our Queen of India, Jacqui, who sadly passed away not long after we returned.
I am loving the biking now, so breast cancer has introduced me to a fabulous new activity. Who'd have thought it?! I am funding my own costs for this challenge, so all donations will go to the three women's charities - breast, ovarian and cervical. Any help you can give will be most welcome. Thank you so, so much to everyone for your love, encouragement and support which has been endless.
