Story

I am fundraising in memory of my amazing husband Stuart Clark.

I first "met" Stuart online on an Only Fools & Horses fan forum in around 2002. He was hilarious and always knew how to make me laugh. When we finally met up in real life some years later, (2004) we fell in love and the rest, as they say, is history.

We had so much in common and after six months Stuart proposed to me at The Cavern in Liverpool as we were both massive Beatles fans.  He got down on one knee after telling me to "shut up for a minute!" Just over a year later and we were married. Stuart moved in with me and my son Alfie and his daughter Megan, was a regular visitor.

Though not a conventional family,  we were a happy one. We had lots of amazing trips and holidays with "the babies" as well as plenty of nights in, watching films, playing games and enjoying food! Stuart's mum was also a regular visitor as they were extremely close.

Stuart had struggled with his health for many years. As the years went on he had to undergo lots of surgery and treatment.  He had Neurofibromatosis Type 2 which had left him with many health problems including complete deafness, having to use a wheelchair, being partially sighted and major dexterity problems.

When Stuart got too ill to carry on at his job at Pitney Bowes (he was there from age 18 til age 40) he was medically retired. Stuart sat at home for a few weeks and then got bored. Despite his disabilities, he was an extremely clever and sharp man. He started volunteering at DeafPlus (then known as Deaf Access) in Bromley.

After a while, they saw Stuart's potential and employed him! Stuart had worked there ever since, juggling his treatment and hospital appointments. He rarely ever had a day off sick. He loved his work. He had his carer, Jamey who helped him to and from work and his communications worker Jill for at work. Thanks to both Jill and Jamey, Stuart was able to have a "normal" working life.

Stuart had so much going on with his life but he never let things get him down. He had a joke for every occasion and was so quick witted - he could have easily have been a stand-up comedian. Still as he used to say, he'd leave the showing off to me - his "loud mouthed frog" :D

Despite all the surgeries and treatment, Stuart and I still tried to live a normal life as possible. Those who know Stuart will know he loved to have a pint of Guinness down the pub. We were forever eating out and tried to take a holiday at least once a year - Stuart loved holidays and Christmas and would get excited about both :)

He was a massive West Ham fan and I managed to take him to see the new stadium as well as taking him to see a game. Of course "The Mighty Hammers" lost! However, dinner and drinks afterwards made up for it!

We had recently travelled abroad to Cape Verde in February. Stuart loved it and got the holiday bug, so when we got back, we booked to go away again in May. We had so many things that we wanted to do, so to have Stuart so cruelly taken from us on April 5th 2020 by Covid-19 was heartbreaking.

Because of the current restrictions in place, I am unable to give Stuart the funeral that he deserves, however I will make it up with a huge memorial when all this is over. For now, his family thought a nice way to pay tribute to him, would be to set up a fundraising page for the charity that Stuart worked at that supports deaf people.

If you would like to send flowers for the funeral, it is due to be held on May 5th 2020 and they can be sent to:
