Cambridge Regional College cycle team (headed by myself) will be cycling from Cambridge to Paris in July (15/7/13 - 19/7/13) to raise money for combat stress. The team is made up of students from across the college and staff from the faculty of sports and uniformed services. A number of staff cycling are ex service personnel and a large percentage of the students also cycling are looking to embark on careers in the different services themselves.
The ride:
Day 1 - Cambridge to Dover (113miles)
Day 2 - Dover - Iper, finishing at the war cemetery (51 miles).
Day 3 - Yper - Compiegne (106 miles)
Day 4 - Compiegne - Paris, finishing on les champs-élysées (50 miles)
Last year the team set out to cycle from Lands End to Cambridge in under 30hrs non stop, finishing in the end with a time of 27hrs raising over £1200 for the COPS (care of police survivors) charity.
Once again this year has seen the team training hard to achieve this years goal of cycling to Paris and raising money for combat stress. Many of the team have taken part in London to Cambridge and Cambridge to Norwich In perpetration for the challenge which lies ahead.
Dispite the tough times faced by all I have been overwhelmed by the support of local businesses and feel they deserve a mention:
Cambridge Station cycles - providing us with more fantastic bikes and technical support Before and during the ride.
Bedz-r-us - providing a donation to the team to purchase new helmets and lights to keep us safe On the road.
