Story
I will be running in the full 26 mile Salomon Trail Marathon Wales on 20th June 2015, experiencing the stunning trails and tracks of the world-renowned Coed y Brenin Forest Park in the Snowdonia National Park. I am currently training hard and am hoping to finish in under 6 hours, although fitting training in around my busy work / family schedule is proving tricky!
My introduction to Diabetes began in the summer of 2014, when my son, Dexter, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 4. During those first few hours that turned into days and then weeks my wife and I were overwhelmed with severity of Dexter’s condition, but also the support and advice that was given from the Poole Hospital diabetes team and Diabetes UK.
Dexter’s blood glucose levels need constant monitoring and without multiple daily injections of insulin his condition would quickly become life threatening. Coming to grips with the fact that your child has a life threatening condition for which there is no cure is a very hard concept to grasp, and the fantastic support we have had from the medical community has been invaluable.
Finding a cure for Diabetes is dependant on research, and by raising funds to carry out this research we are helping to get one step closer to curing this debilitating disease. I am hoping that my fundraising efforts will help raise awareness of Diabetes, and of course raise as much money as I can for Diabetes UK. Every donation helps, no matter how small!
