As a fell runner, I have huge admiration for the work of the Kinder Mountain Rescue team.
Volunteer-run and almost entirely funded by public donations, Kinder Mountain Rescue is an essential part of everyone being able to enjoy the beautiful Peak District safely.
The global pandemic has had a significant impact on the finances of the charity, which has annual running costs of over £40,000. A combination of cancelled events and collection boxes being behind closed pub and cafe doors means a hugely reduced income to buy what is needed to offer assistance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
I'd love to be able to raise funds by attempting some gnarly runs or walks, but right now the last thing Kinder Mountain Rescue needs is people ending up in trouble and needing assistance. So I've come up with something different.
On Saturday, June 6th 2020 at 6am I'll set off for a 24-hour litter picking challenge. Starting from my house in Marple Bridge, I plan to walk in the direction of Hayfield and deeper into Derbyshire to see how far I can get and litter pick as many towns and link roads as possible in the 24-Hrs.All rubbish bags will be collected the next day by Myself or anyone willing to help 👑 (best get all my head torches charged!).
My daughter, wife and I love to litter pick in our local area to keep it as clean as we possibly can. I'd love to use this challenge to not only push myself , but also to make a difference to our countryside and local wildlife.
Please consider making a donation - big or small - to spur me on and support the fantastic Kinder Mountain Rescue Team! P.s all litter filled bags when full will be marked and then collected the next day. It will be very interesting to see how man bags I can collect over the 24hours.
