Story
Thank you for visiting our Captains' Charity Fundraising Page.
Our Captains’ charity for 2021/22 is Perseid School in Morden.
Perseid School caters for young people, aged 3-19 who have severe and complex learning difficulties, and learners with an additional diagnosis of autism and/or physical/sensory difficulties.
We wanted to have a single charity this year, and we wanted it to be something local where our efforts could make a real and identifiable difference. Having visited the school and met the Executive Head Teacher, Tina Harvey, we are sure we have made a good choice and we are excited about the work we will do with Perseid this year.
We are both ex-teachers, and we could see as soon as we arrived that the school has a great atmosphere. Tina’s dedication, commitment and enthusiasm shone through in everything she told us. What was particularly striking was the determination to provide high quality individual development for all of the pupils as well as the care they need. That is ambitious given the range and severity of the children’s conditions we saw for ourselves. The resources needed to meet that ambition are significant.
Tina showed us plans for specific facilities to enhance the pupil’s experiences and learning. These plans are fully designed and ready to start but need funding. Overall, there are 4 main facilities – we have details at the club. These will be built sequentially as funding becomes available. Each of the 4 has individually costed sub-elements.
We are aiming to help with, or even fully provide the first facility to be built. We are not limiting our ambition with a set target – we hope to make a significant contribution and will push hard all year.
We have a chance here to help great people do great things while we enjoy our golf and club. Please join in our various initiatives - or suggest additional ones to us – and dig deep!
Thanks in anticipation.
