Story

Will you sponsor me in my first attempt at water-skiing in over four decades to to raise money on behalf of the EDAA? A local dementia charity.

Like a lot of small organisations it’s tough at the minute raising funds to keep up their/our good work.  And the EDAA are in the same position, having to fundraise as much as we can.

I was thinking the other day that I might try something, ahem, dramatic to raise funds for the charity, and came up with a brainwave😁

As some of you may know I grew up in Mombasa, Kenya. Lovely country. And whilst I lived there I used a do a lot water-skiing.

Clearly that was a long time ago but I’m of the view (Cherine disagrees😜 ) that although i haven’t actually water-skied for over 40 years, I’ll pick it up as soon as I get in the water. Like riding a bike, to coin a phrase.

So here’s what I plan to do on behalf of the EDAA.

I’ve found an excellent and very friendly company in Newhaven called Maverick Boat Adventures (  https://www.maverickboatadventures.com) and they’ve agreed to let me have a go. I was a regular mono skier in the old days when I was around about 16 years old. A wee while ago to be sure, but it’s what I’ll be trying to recreate on the 14th of September off Newhaven.

And either I’ll manage to pull this off with no practice beforehand, just straight into it. Kerching!!

Or…….

I will fall on my backside and face up to the hubris of my (late) middle age ego😂

Whichever way it goes it’ll be a blast and, hopefully, I’ll raise some money for an important cause. Dementia was always something close to my heart when I was your MP - and it remains so today as a Trustee of the EDAA.

I’ll let you all know what happens afterwards with pics to show either my triumph or my ignominy😜

Thank you for your support. I really am very grateful and I know ever penny raised helps the EDAA go from strength to strength in Eastbourne.
