In September 2019, The Leon Barwell Foundation completely funded a family holiday for Carol, myself and our daughters Sara & Kim.
The Foundation provides funds for a family where a member has a life threatening or terminal illness, to take a much needed holiday.
We chose to go to The Grove Hotel in Bournemouth, a unique hotel that offers a beautiful holiday retreat for patients, their family, friends and carers.
They have a qualified nurse on duty 24/7 and several rooms have full accessibility for those that need wheelchair access.
I don't know if you remember that glorious week in September last year when there was wall-to-wall sunshine?
That was the week we booked. We were so lucky - almost as though it was meant to be!

We are raising money to support The Leon Barwell Foundation in gratitude for enabling us to take one last family holiday together. Fortunately Carol was well enough to thoroughly enjoy it.
She had been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in March of last year, just in time for a successful 8 hour operation to remove a massive tumour.
Sadly, subsequent biopsies showed that the cancer remained at a cellular level and so it was inevitable that it would return.
Carol underwent 3 months of Chemotherapy which, thankfully, held the cancer off just long enough for her to be able to give her granddaughter Callie, daughter to Kim and husband Paul, a much looked forward to cuddle.
Callie obviously wanted the chance to meet her Grandma because she arrived 4 weeks early.

Just 11 days later Carol was admitted to hospital and, following a transfer to Cynthia Spencer Hospice, passed away peacefully on March 30th.
We would all like to thank sincerely everyone at The Leon Barwell Foundation for the magnificent work they do, raising funds to support families in our situation.
