Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Back in late 2005, I suddenly suffered total loss of Kidney Function or Chronic Renal Failure whilst walking in the Yorkshire Dales. For me and hundreds of other folk this is a devastating occurrence.
Life saving Dialysis Treatment together with Kidney Transplantation are usually the ways back to a normal life but these take time, in my case 4 years of Haemodialysis before a transplant became available in November 2009. Haemodialysis is a process where excess fluid and life threatening toxins are removed by filtering the patients blood through a special Dialysis Machine. The process takes around 5 hours and has to be done 3 times per week, every week, in normal situations.
I am now well on the road to recovery and I owe a serious debt of gratitude to the many Medical Staff who helped me through those dark years but also I owe myself for taking a serious involvement in my own treatment. I believe that taking control of my treatment empowered me and gave me the strength and knowledge to keep myself well and focused. The shared care meant that key Medical Staff were always available to guide me and help me when I needed them and the Shared Care System gave me the flexibility to continue working and travelling abroad and living my life as near as possible to normality.
We need to raise £200.000 this year to provide a Shared Care Unit alongside the Heatherdene Dialysis Unit in Harrogate and with your help I know we can do it.
A plea from my heart, I ask that you help me achieve this goal by donating today.
Please be generous and help seriously ill people live a better life.
Thank you
