Story
Hi, I'm Ted, a very sweet 10-year-old Pug, who came into the care of Oldies Club at the end of 2021, with my best friend and snuggle-buddy, little Penny, a 15-year-old Dachshund x JRT, who you can see in some of these photos.
I have been in a lovely foster home with Penny since then and our fosterer and Oldies Club have been taking great care of us, but unfortunately the humans noted that I have a cough. The vets said I needed further investigation of my cough and potential brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS), which often affects dog breeds like mine. I spent the day - and night - at a specialist vet last week for a thorough investigation, including a CT scan.
I underwent a general anaesthetic for an airway exam, CT scan, bronchoscopy and bronchoalveolar lavage. The specialists advised Oldies Club that the airway exam revealed a number of things, including grade II laryngeal paralysis and that there were changes to my lungs, consistent with chronic lower disease.
The specialists said that based on their assessments so far, surgery for BOAS would not be in my best interest at this stage and that I would benefit more from medical management. Oldies Club will know more once the specialists have all my test results back.
Although I am not being put forward for surgery at this time, the vet bills have already reached almost £3,000 for me! That's a big number for a little old chap like me. Oldies Club knows that times are hard for many people, but if anyone could spare a few pounds to contribute towards these costs, it would be very much appreciated. You can donate from £2 upwards via this page - and donations soon add up when lots of lovely people make them :-)
Should Oldies Club supporters be generous enough to donate more than is needed for my vet bills/care, any excess money will be directed to the charity’s general fund and used to help other older dogs in its care.
Thank you, in hope of your kindness.
