We aim to raise funds for a memorial statue to commemorate the life of Dame Vera Lynn

Story

The family and loved ones of Sir David Amess, MP for Southend West, have been overwhelmed by the public support and the number of kind messages, flowers and tributes left in his memory, in the wake of his untimely death.

As his funeral approaches, those closest to him kindly request that in lieu of flowers and other tributes, monetary donations are made to several key charities which Sir David passionately and wholeheartedly supported.

One of those is the Dame Vera Lynn Memorial Statue.

The aim is to raise funds for a permanent memorial to Dame Vera, who passed away on 18th June 2020, aged 103. Renowned sculptor, Paul Day, whose work includes the Battle of Britain Memorial on the Embankment, has agreed to design and create the memorial which is expected to cost £1.5m and it is this sum we are trying to raise. The memorial will be sited on the iconic White Cliffs of Dover, which were immortalised in one of Vera’s most famous songs.

On behalf of Sir David, his family and loved ones, thank you for your kind donation and helping his charitable work live on.
