Story
UPDATE - As Greg said "Brutal, beautiful, and a brilliant sense of achievement, doing 87 miles (we got lost a lot) in 4 days, doing the Dales Way Walk in reverse, for Leeds Mind and our own sense of something." There were some scary moments like when we were lost in the pitch dark on a hill, in marsh land with just a small flickering light in the distance to head towards. But we’ve raised more than £8.5k (inc Gift Aid) and rising, so all worth it! Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us and for all the positive words of support we received that kept us going. We are so so grateful. The charity is very close to all of our hearts and so it means the world to us. Thank you! Original story below.
ORIGINAL STORY - Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Having just about recovered from walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks last year, for Cancer Research, It’s that time of the year again when Source family and friends, will don our walking boots and take on our next charity challenge. This time we will be walking The Dales Way in four days (24th – 27th Sept) – an 80-mile long route from Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria to Ilkley, West Yorkshire.
Why have we chosen MIND?
Sadly we have all lost someone to mental health – the silent killer. In particular, suicide is the single biggest killer of men aged under 45 in the UK. (source https://www.mind.org.uk):
We are older but none the wiser and will be walking in memory of the loved ones we’ve lost to this awful disease while raising awareness of this worthy cause. We know they’ll be looking down on us and laughing as we try and navigate our way around some of England’s most beautiful countryside.
Times are tough and lots of charities are asking for support right now, but we would really appreciate any donation you can provide no matter how small it is, every penny counts and let’s help this extremely worthwhile charity.
And remember don’t suffer in silence! Talking can help. www.mind.org.uk
