Story
On October 9 2014. Hayley Harthern and I will be embarking on the challenge of a life time.
We will be kicking off our high heels in exchange for a good supportive pair of walking boots and a shed load of Goretex and heading out to Tanzania Africa in the attempt to conquer the highest free standing mountain in the world! Kilimanjaro.
The trek path we have chosen is the Lemosho route made famous by the likes of Cheryl, Chris Moyles and Ferne Cotton’s altitude sickness for Comic Relief. Unlike the celebrities; Hayley and I will be sleeping in tents and will not have the luxury of a proper toilet or a shower for at least 7 days! Which as you can imagine is not something we ladies are used to!
The itinerary is a gruelling 8 day trek including a 12-15 hour trek on summit day starting at Midnight where temperatures can be as low as minus 20, altitude sickness is a given and has been described to us as “a constant hangover where you don’t want to move or eat and your head pounds!” So reeeally looking forward to that!
Why are we doing this? Although a gruelling challenge we feel that by collaborating with nature something truly wonderful can be achieved.
We have both chosen two different charities close to our hearts to raise money for and support. Hayley the Christie Cancer Hospital and myself Macmillan Cancer nurses.
For many people affected by cancer, Macmillan nurses are a valued and trusted source of expert information, advice and support - free of charge. £25 can help pay for a Macmillan cancer nurse for an hour. Click here for more info on the amazing work they do.
We need to raise a minimum of 5k each in order to complete the challenge so please help us to reach this target however you can.
I have chosen Macmillan as earlier this year Georgie my sister and her boyfriend Christian lost one of their best friends at a very young age. It was this tragic event that made me want to take action and do something to help.
So please dig deep and help us in our quest!
