Story
Hi, in April I will be running the London Marathon 2024 for Retina UK.
Retina UK is a charity very close to me, as it was always very close to one of my good friends Finlay Macleod, who sadly passed away on the 25th of May 2023.
I met Finlay in Whistler, over 10 years ago, where we quickly bonded over a love of skiing. Finlay was the one who taught me about Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), which is a degenerative condition in which the cells in your retina break down gradually over time and can, in the long term, result in loss of vision. Finlay was diagnosed aged 9, however this never stopped him. He never let RP hold him back from doing what he loved, he was always determined and so brave.
It most never stopped him from messing around on the slopes, leaving our faces hurting from laughing and smiling so much. Finlay always made me laugh with his cheeky personality and his kindness was admirable. He was a great friend for many years, so I will be doing the marathon for him.
By stimulating and funding the amazing medical research, Retina UK increases the understanding of degenerative eye conditions and accelerates the search for treatments for the future. Retina UK’s vision ‘Is a world where everyone with inherited sight loss is able to live a fulfilling life’. The information and support they provide helps people lead better lives, today. They ensure no-one with inherited sight loss feels alone.
Every contribution makes a huge difference, Thank you so much!
Lots of Love Sophie
