Story
As most of my nearest and dearest are aware at 3 years old I
was kicked in the head by a horse, a traumatic experience for not just me but also my family and one which resulted in a long period of rehabilitation.
Fortunately however, there has not been any lasting major consequences and with the support of my loved ones have dealt with making slight adjustments for the more minor speedbumps along the way.
2016 marks the twenty-first anniversary of the accident and will also be the year I (dissertation pending!) qualify as a chartered physiotherapist allowing me to give back to a profession that had a huge role in my recovery. This is also the year I have decided to run the Edinburgh Marathon for Child Brain Injury Trust, supporting families who like my own have been affected by similar freak accidents or life threatening illnesses and marking how far I have come since mine. Often referred to as an ‘invisible disability’, head injuries can make family-life and situations we take completely for-granted such as learning and socialising very difficult for those affected, influencing everything you think, feel and do.
As the only charity in Scotland providing this kind ofsupport, please sponsor me to run 26 long but highly worthwhile miles to help
local families access the right support at the right time. No matter how large or small a donation your generosity really means a lot to me and your lovely comments are getting me through training.
