Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year, instead of birthday gifts or drinks (I don't drink any more anyway so it's no loss!) I am asking for donations to the Northern Chamber Orchestra. Like all arts organisations, they are under threat as the COVID-19 outbreak has put a stop on all live performances. The UK government has not yet announced any financial support for the arts, and, while allowing theatres to reopen, they are not allowing any live performances to take place in them. Without ticket income, the arts will collapse, taking with it 210,000 jobs and the £111.7 billion pounds the arts contribute to the UK economy annually (this is versus the £39 billion sport contributes).
I am asking for donations to the Northern Chamber Orchestra as, not only is it my place of work, it is also a fantastic organisation that not only takes live music to areas under-served by the arts, but also works with dementia patients in care homes and takes musicians into schools that have a lack of funding for the arts. Without funding, the orchestra will not be able to survive. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
