Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In April I am flying out to Morocco to take part in the Marathon des Sables.
The Marathon des Sables, or MdS, is often referred to as "the toughest footrace on the planet". I've entered with the aim of raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). GOSH is a charity that I have supported for many years, and over that time I have been fortunate enough to meet some of the amazing people that work there and who have such a profound impact on the lives of so many children and their families.
For those who have not heard of the MdS it involves running approx. 250km across the Sahara desert in temperatures that can exceed 50 degrees Celsius. It is split into six stages held over seven days, and competitors have to carry all their food and equipment (only water is provided along the way). The route varies every year, and this year the organiser has promised "it will be the longest in kilometres since the race began", however there are some elements that are always included: (i) the dune day, a seemingly endless series of sand dunes, (ii) the marathon day, simply a marathon in the desert, and (iii) the long day, an 80km stage continuing through the night.
Thank you in advance for your support for this amazing charity.
